PVS-14 GoPro Night Vision Adaptor for use with helmet mount - POV Recording - GoPro Hero 9 / 10 / 11 / 12
This adapter allows the user to operate your PVS-14 night vision (NOT INCLUDED) on a helmet and yet record what they see, AKA point of video recording.
NOTE: depending on your exact setup it might not fit properly, you need to be able to create ~ 1 inch of space between your eyepiece and eye for this to fit. If it doesn't fit (or you don’t like it), return it within 45 days for a refund. It fits best with the new Wilcox G24 mount (1.4 in of rail) or the older G22 (also 1.4” of rail).
The adaptor is ~2.7 oz and the GoPro ~ 5.5oz, which increases the overall weight of the system. The adaptor also extends the distance between the end of the diopter to the eye by about 1” making it less comfortable and in some cases does not fit the user depending on the setup. The bottom line, using this system is not ideal and not as comfortable as without, but it does work and allow you to use NVG and record what you see.
This is not the best option to record NVG’s while using them. The TNVC Low Profile Mission Recorder https://tnvc.com/shop/because-operator-low-profile-mission-recorder-lpmr-mkii/ looks to be the best (although we haven’t use it), but that costs $400+.
If you already own a GoPro Hero 9/10/11 this is the most economical option that allows you to use NVG on a helmet and record what you see.
Again, this can make the use of NVG’s less comfortable, but if you play around with the placement it is completely useable, even with dual tubes. After a short time we have found you do not even notice it is there.
NOTE — For best results set GoPro to the following settings:
Hero 9/10 - Narrow lens
Hero 11 - Linear lens for lens and, zoom to 1.4x (located in the setting screen next to timer)
All stabilization OFF
Data Rate “High”
Hero 9 max ISO 800 (1600 dark conditions, image quality will be lower)
Hero 10 max ISO 1600
Hero 11 max ISO 3200
It is very likely this will work on DTNVG / DTNVS / Night Vision Devices BNVD and other systems that use the PVS-14 system diopters, but it has yet to be tested on those systems.
NOTE:
-Hero II Mini will work but is not ideal, it is currently being worked on.
-GoPro Hero 7 and 8 you will need to add “shims” or a few layers of tape to have it hold properly
-The video will not as good of quality as the other NV GoPro Adapter that we offer and the recorded video will be mirrored. These two facts are due to the use of a beam splitter
-This will make using NODs less comfortable, although it is very easy to install and remove and after a few minutes you do get use to it
-This will require you push out the NODs near max away from your face if used with eye protection, and MIGHT NOT fit correctly with certain combinations of mounts. Works best with the new G24 or G22 Wilcox mounts
-THIS IS NOT THE BEST SOLUTION, but if you already own a GoPro Hero 9/10/11 this is the most economical (that we have seen)
